Hold on, because this one gets very complex very fast ! Let us introduce you to the three inspirations for our evening all about celebrating the 9th Day of Christmas and the occasions where one might find "Nine Ladies Dancing" at Christmas.

The first inspiration was a high school Winter Formal (aka: Sadie Hawkins Dance) where all of the guys are being wallflowers and too "cool" to dance with their ladies out on the dance floor. The second connection was the Radio City Rockettes and their iconic Christmastime dance performances. And the third and final muse were Santa's reindeer! Yes, everyone knows that male reindeer lose their antlers in winter and (as Santa's reindeer are always seen with antlers while pulling his sleigh) that means they are in fact nine ladies (including a Prancer and a Dancer as seemed fitting for this event).

We maxed out our creative energies and combined all three inspirations (high school dance, the Rockettes, and reindeer) into a magical evening we called "RADIO CITY MUSIC BALL". The "cafeteria" of our St. Pole North Fly School  (we live in the North End of St. Paul, MN) was transformed into a Winter Wonderland dance hall. The snacks provided throughout the evening were all classic high school dance foods, but with a grown-up spin and a focus on tying into the reindeer and "Lady" themes (ie: Pink Lady Cocktail Punch, Sloppy "Does" Sliders, etc...)

And no high school dance could be complete without dancing. Fully recognizing our Two Left Feet Disorders, we gave an online dance class a try. And, despite not likely qualifying for the Rockettes anytime soon, we were highly impressed with how far we'd progressed by the end of the evening. And to top it off, we were even named Winter Formal King and Queen!
