This was probably the hardest day of the “12 Days of Christmas” – themed evenings to plan. Foods, activities, and themes just didn’t tie together easily. I mean, how many foods involve leaping... or lords? So… we gave it our best effort and got a little creative to made it work.

The menu wound up being focused on medieval fare and what noble lords might have eaten. This included tenderloin with a rich wine sauce, leek pottage, and bread (obviously made from King Arthur Flour). We also created a cocktail we called the “Lord of Misrule” and inspired by the officer appointed during Christmastide to preside over the Christmas revelries (that’s a legit thing, you can look it up!).

We toasted that cocktail to our new (quasi-official) title of Lord and Lady after a donation to a Scotland land preserve made us Scottish landowners. Entertainment was served up with the classic Christmas event where you’d expect to see a leaping lord….”The Nutcracker”. We livestreamed the “Hip Hop Nutcracker”, cracked some nuts (but mainly the nutcrackers), and played a Nutstacker Minute to Win It.

Inspired by the Lord of the Bedchamber (monarch’s dressing attendant) and Lord’s Room (theater box), we created our own bedroom movie suite and watched a Christmas movie with some appropriately-“leaping” popcorn. It was admittedly a stretch to fit in as many “Lord” related activities as possible. But, we still had a great time with it!
