Antarctica is a fascinating place and even more wonderous when you learn about what it takes to survive there. And to think we almost pulled an "Olympics" and left out this continent!

Food options for our "Christmas feast" were quite limited as they enjoy simple things like fresh baked bread given that what is normally eaten on an expedition comes from a can and is typically past its expiration date. But we still created a smorgasbord of canned meats and vegetables paired with our fresh baked bread. Ironically, we had to make our own snow for dessert because it has yet to accumulate any substantial snow in Minnesota this year.

For their Christmas fun, they annually participate in a "Race Around the World" where they dress-up in Christmas gear and literally run around the world three times (just two miles because they're at the South Pole!). We couldn't quite replicate that, but Ben did three laps around Lake Como dressed in Christmas cheer.

During the evening, we we did our best to continue the trend of celebrating each continent through our wardrobe (ie: penguins). We read and watched some fascinating stories about life and food in Antarctica. We made our own Winter Wonderland with shaving cream and whatever else we found lying around our kitchen. And then we played Don't Break the Ice and finished with watching the movie "Let it Snow" as it seemed the most appropriate movie associated with Antarctica.. For not much to  work with, we feel that we did it justice!
