Cliff Richard’s chart-topping single “Mistletoe & Wine” was the inspiration for our Christmas Eve festivities this year. It was an appreciated way to wind down after a full season! The song was originally used in the musical “The Little Match Girl” but Richards changed the lyrics to reflect a more uplifting theme. It went on to top the UK singles charts for four weeks in December 1988 including being the UK’s highest selling single of 1988. It has been a holiday classic ever since.

We honored the song with as many ways as we could find to incorporate mistletoe and wine including mistletoe shaped pancakes and mimosas for breakfast, an “Under the Mistletoe” cocktail and mistletoe-inspired appetizers with cranberries and mint, then wrapped it up with a hearty cranberry beef bourguignon for Christmas Eve dinner as has been a Sommerfeld tradition and a perfect incorporation of cooking with wine. We finished the evening with a viewing of “Mistletoe Ranch” …and  of course a glass of wine :)
