Festive Fudges & Small Ones’ Smudges
Tonight we brought our new “Rhyming Hygge” theme back and celebrated “Festive Fudges & Small Ones’ Smudges”. The kids got in on the action by helping us make a variety of fudges, the classic Christmas treat. No one is entirely sure when fudge was invented, but some historians believe it occurred around 1886 after a botched batch of caramels. Today, there are endless variations of flavors to choose from. We chose candy cane, egg nog, hot chocolate, and cranberry pistachio.
To pair with our festive fudges, the kids also helped us make some Christmas art (aka: “Small Ones Smudges”). They used paints to make paper plate peppermint candies and an egg carton Christmas tree.
Once the kids were asleep for the night, the two of us had some activities that played on the many variations of “smudge” and “fudge”. We shook up a smoked rosemary cocktail in connection to the craft of smudging (ie: burning herbs). We also played some “blurred” Christmas picture quizzes. For fudges, we played a “Fudge the Numbers” card lying game with Charlie Brown cards. And we capped the night off by honoring one of the greatest Christmas movie lines of all time (Ralphie’s “Ohhh fuuudge”) by watching “A Christmas Story Christmas”.
