2022 is the year that features a lot of themes (ie: Krampus) that were intentionally slotted for an age when the twins were too young to need explaining. This was one of those as well since the classic yet controversial “Baby It’s Cold Outside” was our theme of the day.

Originally written by a husband and wife duo in 1944 and primarily performed at parlor room parties to signal guests that it was time to go home, it since went on to win the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1950 in “Neptune’s Daughter” and has subsequently been covered by over 400 acts from Sammy Davis Jr to Bette Middler to Seth MacFarlane to Avril Lavigne.

The lyrics are controversial and we read a fascinating Vox article about the various perspectives on it. But, we decided to primarily keep the night innocent and have some good-natured fun. The foods all played on the “baby” element including baby back ribs, baby carrots, baby potatoes, baby mushrooms, baby spinach and a Baby Ruth Blizzard.

For some fun activities, we brought our babies (Miles and Edison) outside to play in the cold snow. We also brought back one of our favorite Christmas games in “Find the Baby Sock”. And we watched a lot of videos from the original “Neptune’s Daughter” scene to “Elf” to parody videos of the song. We wagered on the twins in a “I Really Can’t Stay…. Asleep” betting game before settling down for some “Listen to that Fireplace Roar” reading while we “Put Some Records on While I Pour” up some “What’s In This Drink?” and “Baby It’s Cold Outside” cocktails.
